Homework:

 

1. To provide opportunities to further develop self discipline, sound study habits and time management skills.

2. To reinforce skills and extend topics taught at school.

3. To enable parents to become more involved in their child’s learning.

 

Guidelines:

 

1. Homework is a shared responsibility between parents, teachers and students.

2. In planning homework activities teachers will give consideration to:

 

The need for tasks to be clearly understood

Difficulties encountered by some children in the home situation

Catering for a range of abilities

 

3. Teachers will provide feedback to students when homework is completed.

4. Teachers will notify parents about any homework concerns.

5. Parents, teachers and students need to be aware of maintaining a balance between home tasks and other school activities.

 

Implementation:

 

1. Parents will be informed at the beginning of the year of their grade’s homework program and will be kept up to date with the program throughout the year.

2. Generally homework for students in Prep to Year 2 will not exceed thirty minutes per day. Homework in these grades will be primarily based on reading, spelling and number facts.

3. Homework for students in Years 3 and 4 will not exceed thirty minutes per day. Homework in these grades will be primarily based on reading, spelling, tables and number facts and class projects.

4. Homework for students in Years 5 and 6 will not exceed forty- five minutes per day. Homework in these grades should involve independent reading, and tasks which are an extension of class work, projects and research.

5. Continued student failure to complete homework on a regular basis will be followed up with parents.

6. All parents will be provided with a copy of the school’s homework policy at the beginning of the school year.
