Developmental Curriculum

Developmental Curriculum

We have developed a comprehensive and innovative curriculum covering the eight key learning areas. We are committed to teaching each child at their individual point of need helping them fulfil their learning potential. The home school partnership between parents, students and the school is vital if success is to be achieved.

Our major focus at all times is on our children acquiring skills in English and Mathematics.

English

We aim to provide success in literacy for all students by providing a strategic and comprehensive literacy program incorporating The Victorian Early Literacy Program, which is further developed as the child progresses through the school. Students are exposed to a balanced program covering the there components of literacy learning, Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing.

Emphasis is on the children developing at their own level by building on previous experiences and knowledge.

Mathematics

Our mathematics program provides opportunities for all students to become confident mathematical problem solvers and to learn to communicate and reason mathematically. The understanding of how each student solves problems and processes information is pivotal in this process.

We aim to provide mathematical learning for all children by setting attainable objectives for each child, and by implementing a sequentially developed program based on previously acquired concepts and skills.

Our school is fully networked with computers in both laboratory and classroom settings. Our Information Technology equipment is used as a teaching and learning tool across all areas of the curriculum.

Science, Technology, Health, Studies of Society and the Environment – Integrated Curriculum.

We have developed an integrated studies program, incorporating Science, Health, Studies of Society and the Environment. Units of work are developed around themes, with a least one unit per year focussing on each of the key learning areas.

Languages other than English (LOTE)

Children currently undertake the study of Spanish. Our aim is to expose children to a culture and language quite different to their own.
